Karen is an associate lawyer at Sweatman Law Professional Corporation. She started with the firm as an articling student in 2015 and after her Call to the Bar in 2016, she continued on as an associate. Karen’s practice primarily focuses on estate planning and real estate and she also has experience in estates litigation as well.
She has an Honours B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and an M.A. at Ryerson University and York University in the joint Communications and Culture Studies program. She pursued her law degree at the University of Ottawa.
During law school, she was a research assistant and was able to intern with a human rights firm in Ottawa as well as family law lawyer in Toronto. As a summer student she worked in-house with the legal department of an international corporation.
Her volunteer initiatives included acting as a student caseworker with the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, conducting research through Pro Bono Students Canada with respect to the Ticket Defence Program and access to justice and legal services for those who are homeless, and volunteering as a court support worker at the Ottawa Courthouse with the Elizabeth Fry Society.
